The Growth Of Cloud Computing

Around 4 years back, IDC stated that cloud computing was only off the starting blocks and yet to gather speed. Today however, IDC is confident that cloud computing is here to stay and that organizations should adapt to it as soon as possible. The evidence for this confidence lies in hardware sales. The growth in cloud service providers has led to growth in equipment sales and companies are investing in data centers to serve customer demands. For instance, companies like Datacom, IBM and Revera have invested several million dollar in data center facilitate in various places in New Zealand.

For Xero, another company based in New Zealand, there has been massive growth in cloud delivered accounting applications and its customers have gone from 45000 to 60000 in a few months. However, for most organizations,  cloud computing is still a concept under testing. While bigger enterprises are creating and using private clouds, the smaller organizations are using the internet and the clouds of service providers to good effect.
