Federal data centers are very quickly getting saturated with data and this is forcing them to adapt storage architecture which helps optimize Big Data storage. For the past 4 years, the federal IT budget has been relatively flat but there is an increased in big data and a concomitant need to store Big Data too. The growth in data storage needs have been showing a growth between 30 and 40% every year. This is a complex figure given the fact that IT funding has been tight and there is a rather pressing need to reduce costs. Storage has also become a crucial issue because of the growth of cloud computing and the need for data center consolidation. For most of the federal agencies, a tiered storage architecture has been the technology of choice.
Depending on the various needs like speed of data access, data protection, archiving requirements to name a few components, federal agencies will need to put together data storage architecture.
