Big Data vs Cloud Computing

Just a while ago, cloud computing was in the limelight for all its capabilities. Now, it is the turn of ‘big data’ and specifically the huge volumes of data being compiled by federal agencies. Even though big data is getting a fair bit of attention, it is likely that federal spending on the same will be slightly limited to begin with. The agencies are also in the process of realizing exactly how powerful big data can be in their mission to serve the citizens in a better way. Even though the White House has established a big data initiative, not all federal agencies are proficient in big data analysis.

Big data usage is better when the agencies are cloud ready, have an integrated IT infrastructure that resides in a virtualized data center. According to analysts at Deltek, the big data growth for the federal agencies will be slower than estimated in the next 5 years.
