Innovation has always been the mainstay of any data center company. One of the areas in which plenty of data center companies focus on is keeping the data center cool. GRC or Green Revolution Cooling, a Texas based company started on an innovative approach to cooling down servers by submerging them in mineral oil. After a year of trial of this idea, reports state that Intel has apparently “approved” of this method of keeping things cool. The system was tested by Carnotjet, a chip maker.
The cooling method works by submerging the servers in mineral oil which removes the heat from server electronics. This method is said to be far more effective than traditional air cooling too. According to the company, this system can reduce the energy used to cool a data center by as much as 95%.
Even though there is a lot of positive buss being created bout this system, it is still very much in the evaluation stage.
