Google has drawn up plans to be a more reliable provider of IaaS support than AWS or Amazon Web Service. But enterprise demands that there is openness in cloud technology and Google’s is largely proprietary. So will the secrecy by the company’s undoing in terms of the battle space for market share in the IaaS cloud market. Google is relying on the advantage it has in its cross data center technology which results in the creation of a redundant infrastructure that enhances reliability. The company has earned itself the reputation of having robust technology. But the principle behind the working of the technology is the problem area, if one can call it that.
Issues like the location of the data, what is happening with the data and so on are things that Google may never reveal to its customers. The alternative in terms of open source software like OpenStack has, over a period of time, proven itself. So Google does have a battle on its hands.
