One of the most popular “areas” when it came to hackers was the OS, but with the growth and adoption of cloud computing and virtualization within the data center, more security breaches are happening in the hypervisor layer, which is the latest target for attacks.
VMware and the Hypervisor
A while earlier, VMware was focused on Microsoft guest OS security but now has to contend with the growing deployment the hypervisor everywhere. Earlier, the company had to deal with security issues within the VMware community.
Just a while ago, VMware had to deal with its source code being leaked. Even though VMware fixes problems quickly, the debate is now on whether it should adopt a fixed schedule of security patches, something on the lines of Patch Tuesday of Microsoft.
It has even conducted a survey of security practices among its customers. But the results have not led to an indication of strong preference. It would be worth watching what VMware decides.
