Business faces an ever increasing set of demands from customers and to deliver a rapidly expanding portfolio of services, CIOs need to face and deal with a variety of issues. Pain points such as overstressed IT personnel, constrained resources and constant demand of different priorities and a lack of integration between different systems exist across almost all organizations.Thus, big vendors in this space are promoting the concept of Unified Infrastructure which integrates server, networking, storage into a single platform.

To implement this idea, the concept of data center in a box has also come to the fore. Along with the integrated IT infrastructure, this kind of a data center is also easy to install. Vendors claim that this kind of a data center can be up and running in a few hours. There is also the advantage of such systems being supported by a single vendor. Even though off-the-shelf data center boxes are some way off, the potential in this space is worth watching out for.
