Trends In The Server Market – ELE & HVD

October 5, 2012 1 Comment »

According to research firm, Gartner Inc., three key trends of segments are going to push the server market in the next few years. These three segments are hyperscale data centers, extreme low energy (ELE) servers and hosted virtual desktop (HVD) workloads. All these technologies will be the key factors for growth opportunities by the year 2015. As far as data centers go, servers are the heart of the matter.

This piece of hardware infrastructure is where apps and workloads take up residence and server expenditure accounts for around 60% of total data center hardware. Gartner’s principal research analyst, Kiyomi Yamada also states that the server market was $ 52.8 billion, globally speaking.

With the growth in customers, companies like Facebook, Google and Amazon need to deal with huge volumes of data which in turn need hyperscale data centers. Demand for virtualized servers and need to increase energy savings and efficiency will drive demand for HVD and ELE servers respectively.
