In the recent past companies like VMware and Oracle have executed a few strategic purchases that has seen their growing strength in the virtualization space. By the looks of it, Citrix Systems is all set to follow suit too. The question is whether Citrix will purchase Nutanix and fortify its arsenal against companies like EMC and VMware in the data center storage space. Cisco invested in Insieme, VMware purchased Nicira and Oracle purchased Xsigo and now it looks like Citrix will pick up Nutanix. While the rumors of this purchase have been doing the rounds, virtualization acquisition seems to be coming to the fore in a big way.
Nutanix offers a “simple compute and storage building block” which has the potential to cause a lot of turmoil in the traditional storage companies like NetApp. Nutanix is partners with Citrix and VMware. There is yet to be official confirmation on Citrix plans for Nutanix acquisition.
