Converged infrastructures are finding their way into the IT landscape of an increasing number of companies for it does away with the need to manage multiple settings, provisioning, authentication and so on.Basically, convergence, also called dynamic infrastructure and unified computing integrates computing, storage and network resources to help in flexibility in virtual computing and application deployment. This is the simple description of convergence.
Implementing a converged infrastructure can be complex but it does away with the inefficiencies of silo – based computing of old.
Each of the three basic areas – computing, storage and networking see a lot of duplication in silo computing. Extra machines may be maintained by each department but used only for a fraction of its capacity.
Convergence on the other hand simplifies even data center assets and making power, networking, storage and connectivity a commonly pooled and used resource that is then used to its optimum potential. More and more vendors are getting into the converged infrastructure space.
