February 10, 2012 No Comments »

Freescale Semiconductor, a communications processing firm has recently introduced two new embedded multicore processors from its family of QorlQ Advanced Multiprocessing Series – T4240 and T4160 with data loss prevention and application recognition features. These stables of products are capable of deploying hardware acceleration, hardware assisted virtualization, fabric based interconnect technology and high speed I/O among other things. The T4240 processors are founded upon the company’s dual threaded e6500 Power Architecture Core and has 24 virtual cores. The T4160 series processors are new software and have 16 cores which can attain 1.8 GHz.

There is a new second generation hardware based hypervisor technology that has gone into the making of these multicore processors that simplify development and allow for the safe and autonomous operation of multiple individual operating systems.

Both these processors also come with regular expression pattern matching engine for application recognition and data loss prevention. They have 50 Gbps of packet parse, support 10 G and 1 G Ethernet.
