Marine Data Center Dilemma – Kansas vs. New Orleans

February 7, 2012 No Comments »

The state of Kansas is trying its best not to lose the Marine data center which has been there since decades. Normally it’s the Marines who fight for the nation but here is the other way around, with two US states are at logger heads, well not literally, over the issue to retain the US Marine Corp data center.A well established data center is certainly a great asset for any region and its economy with lots of well paying jobs and other associated developments. So it is not surprising that Kansas government is trying to persuade the US Marine Corps not to shift their current data centerdata center from Kansas to New Orleans, where they have a lucrative offer.

Only time will decide the final outcome whether the facility stays at Kansas or shifts to New Orleans but currently both sides seem to be trying their best by putting their best feet forward.

The facility has been in existence since the year 1967 and hence community support in Kansas is quite good with most employees from within the community itself. Even otherwise the proponents of the Kansas side say there is no point spending huge amounts of public money to relocate an IT facility which is functioning without much hassles.
