Greenpeace has come up with its latest edition of Cool IT Leaderboard and Google has found pride of place on this list as one of the best green IT technology company. It has beaten the likes of Cisco to achieve this ranking. Other names like Ericsson, Fujitsu, IBM and HP have some of the top positions on this list. A bigger part of the industry does not have plans to reduce their carbon footprints so this gives Google another opportunity to gloat! Google has made it to top ranking due to its emphasis on transparency. The company has made the details of the environmental impact of its IT operations known both in terms of current impact levels and plans to migrate to lower emission levels as well.
Google’s also been a steady player and presence in the green IT business. For instance, they have been major players in the Bloom fuel cell customer list, solar power, wind farms and opening data centers in places like Finland to capitalize on using freely available seawater for cooling.
