Equinix Inc. has announced that 39 of its data centers in North America have attained SSAE 16 Type II certification. The Standards for Attestation Engagements focus on physical security, environmental controls and imply that Equinix data centers is committed to the highest standards of operational excellence.
The SSAE 16 is a new reporting standard for service organizations. This has been deployed by the Auditing Standards Board or the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. It has replaced the SAS 70 and takes into data center providers within its ambit as well.
The company has met the requirements of these Standards for the third consecutive year. On the business side of things, such a certification is important for the financial customers since the SSAE 16 compliance is a requirement for them. The customers of Equinix need to trust that the data center facilities have high levels of security and controls.
Last year, Equinix achieved 99.9999 % availability as well. This figure was achieved by its North American IBX facilities.
