Cloud Computing And Its Economic Effects

July 11, 2012 1 Comment »

Often, the role of IT and cloud computing on the economy is not given enough attention. Cloud computing will not only impact the role and lives of people within the IT domain but will have an effect on people outside of it as well. In fact, it will have a greater impact on the latter. The effect will start with a business moving IT into a third party data center which will be followed by business processes also being moved in that direction.

This will also reduce the need for manpower because with the help of the cloud, there are fewer people required for tasks like automating a process and so on. According to CSC, an IT services provider, the acceleration in business process outsourcing through the cloud are a big factor in causing economic disruption.

For instance, IDC predicted that cloud computing is in a position to create 14 million new jobs in another 3 years. The question however is whether this number represents the number of people who will merely replace a fraction of the number of people who have lost their jobs.
