According to Joshua McKenty, co-founder of Piston Cloud, OpenStack caters to 4 categories of customers. IBM customers, clients who hire consultants for building a cloud, and 2 classes of customers who want either their own or a third-party managed data solution. When customers seek an enterprise level agreement, they also want robustness and reliability in their VM network. There are also customers who look for much more than what AWS can offer by way of cloud computing solutions.
But today, there is a huge demand for cloud technologies because of the massive growth in data. According to Cisco, there will be a 66% CAGR and mobile traffic between 2012 and 2017.
This may lead to a move away from AWS simply because clients seek more in terms of control over data. There are some big names operating in the space of data growth and companies such as Red Hat and HP are some of them.
