Places like Northern Virginia, Loudon County, Ashburn have been associated with the data center industry for a long time now but it seems like Maryland is emerging as a viable location as well. AiNET, a Beltsville company, is establishing its data center in Glen Burnie. The facility should be operational in a few more months. The data center is coming up on 300,000 square feet and is being constructed in an existing building which in its previous avatar was a department store.
For AiNET, this is the third data center and will be linked up with the other 2 facilities to enable interchangeable operations. AiNET is working on the principle of branching out from one location for its data center to prepare for the possibility of one event causing disruptions.
Maryland emerged as the final choice for its market place where there are plenty of data center users but very few by way of data centers. AiNET hopes to change the mindset of the data center industry from locating only in a single place.
