ioMart Hosting, a cloud computing and managed hosting services provider has completed a group wide virtualization for o2o or office2office, a supplier of office supplies for the UK government. For o2o, the need for virtualization was felt after a few acquisitions in the recent past which left their IT structure fragmented. Thus far, their IT infrastructure has been a single set of offices and 1 server room in Norwich. With the acquisitions, the company needed to not only reduce their risks but also put in a scalable platform. The need to evolve from a conventional IT department to a flexible IT infrastructure brought in the need for virtualization. iomart Hosting was selected to deliver rationalization. O2o selected iomart for their intensive interaction with their own team.

The large scale migration saw the moving of 200 servers into iomart’s London data center. With this group wide virtualization, server hardware for o2o was reduced significantly. The group’s DNS services are delivered through a large VMware platform with built in backup. This also provides Active Directory plus San storage. An MSSQL Cluster and MSSQL Mirror function as two dedicated database servers.
