Flexible Growth Strategy For Data Center And Cloud Computing

March 29, 2012 No Comments »

Currently, an idea under some thought is the possibility of taking a modular data center platform such as the one Colt has and shift it whenever required. This idea came to the fore ay the Verne Global data center. The shifting data center would serve the purpose of meeting or coping with changes in customer demands. Thus, if demand had reduced considerably or if the data center market had been consolidated then the modular data center could be relocated to a market which is showing signs of growth.

To expand a modular data center, one necessarily needs space, power and bandwidth. However, virtualization and cloud computing can help shift work loads within a data center. Moving between geographical zones and loads is extremely easy with these technologies. The factors that may complicate this scenario are regulatory or compliance issues.

Reusing a modular data center like the ones Colt has is a revolutionary and useful idea indeed but it might take some time to show wide scale adoption and acceptance.
