Digital Realty, a data center firm has completed the acquisition of two data centers in Atlanta and San Francisco. The former has come at a price tag of $ 63 million and the latter for $ 85 million. The Atlanta data center acquisition was a sale leaseback transaction. The previous owner of the facility was a US based airline company. The data center facility is situated close to the Hartsfield – Jackson Atlanta International Airport. While the former owner will remain the occupant on 167,000 square feet, the rest of the facility will be leased on long term basis out to the travel industry worldwide.
Digital Realty has around 100 data center properties which also means a footprint of 17.9 million square feet. The company’s services are available throughout markets in Australia, Europe, Singapore and North America.
These two projects are a part of the company’s strategy of investing in “institutional data center facilities.” Digital Realty has also ushered in David Schirmacher as senior vice president of technical operations. Schirmacher was a chief strategy officer at FieldView Solutions and also has 12 years of data center strategy and infrastructure experience with Goldman Sachs.
