Data Domain Virtual Tape Library By EMC

June 25, 2012 No Comments »

EMC has successfully implemented its Data Domain virtual tape library (VTL) which has resulted in simplified backup and recoveries for the Mid-Continent Group which is in the insurance sector. EMC has stated that it has had a successful data domain installation at IBM i shop. This will give the IBM i shop savings, more space and faster recoveries. This has been made possible by the move from a tape based back up strategy to a disk based strategy. The Mid Continent Group has been an IBM i shop for many years now and is basically a collection of three insurance companies.

By getting into a business relationship with EMC, the group has adopted Symmetrix Remote Data Facility data replication technology, storage and data management solutions and Symmetrix storage arrays. Early 2011 saw EMC announcing IBM i support. This was specific to its Data Domain products. Shortly thereafter it implemented a Data Domain VTL to replace the IBM tape library.
