Meraki, a vendor for cloud based solutions is being acquired by Cisco. Meraki is a vendor of technology for solutions like security appliances, wireless LAN and mobile devices. Cisco is all set to acquire Meraki for $1.2 billion. With this acquisition Cisco will be in a better position to offer solutions that will help simplify network management and support revenue generating activities for partners as well. For Cisco, it is a strategic move indeed for it gets hold of Meraki’s technology for secure cloud managed networks. The founders of Meraki, three doctorate candidates from MIT, will stay on as leaders of the Cloud Networking Group.
This Group is a newly formed one within Cisco. Some of the activities that this Group will perform will lead Cisco into turning more of its products into the cloud.
Cisco is also planning to acquire Cloupia which is a software company that helps develop products for automating data center operations.
